The Quick Biscuit Ingredients
Heavy Whipping Cream
Self-rising flour– I didn’t have any so I made some right at home!
A heavy pinch of salt– Redmond’s is the best
Butter– enough for brushing on the tops of the biscuits (about 3 tablespoons), optional
A friend shared this recipe with me weeks ago but didn’t give me any further direction past the ingredients. I made it my goal to make this recipe work with very little help from the internet.
A quick recipe for turning all-purpose flour into self-rising flour right from my own kitchen using what I already had as pantry staples was all the help I needed to get started.
How to make quick breakfast biscuits
Jump to RecipeIn a mixing bowl, add 2 cups of self-rising flour, 1 1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream, and a pinch of salt. Mix until a dough is formed.
Lightly dust a clean countertop or surface. Roll out the dough in to a circle with a thickness you’re okay with.
My first try with two ingredient biscuits yielded a thin biscuit due to rolling the dough too thin (about 1/4 an inch thick is way too thin). Aim for 1/2 inch thick dough. Pictured is the process but definitely roll your dough less thin than pictured here.
Use a cookie or biscuit cutter or keep it real Southern and use a drinking glass to cut out the biscuits. Aim for about 8 biscuits cut out of the dough.
Additional fun with these quick breakfast biscuits
Jump to RecipeButter a cast iron skillet on the stovetop over medium heat. Then add in your biscuits to the skillet as closely as you can. Brush some melted butter to the tops. Then allow the bottoms of the biscuits to brown in the butter just slightly. About 4 minutes in the skillet.
Next, transfer the cast iron skillet to the oven to bake at 500 degrees for about 10 minutes or until golden brown as preferred.
The original baking option is to add the cut out biscuits to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper touching one another, if you want.
Bake at 500 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
Remove biscuits from the oven to brush on melted butter then bake for 7-8 minutes longer or until golden brown as preferred.
How to serve two ingredient biscuits
These little buttery breakfast biscuits are best served immediately from the oven.
- Slice the biscuit open and apply a generous slathering of butter and your favorite homemade jam:
- Alternatively, cook an egg to your liking (fried, scrambled, or over easy, perhaps) and then layer it with cheese slices and a sausage round to your biscuit. Makes for a hearty and delicious breakfast biscuit.
- One more option is just a plain ol’ cheese biscuit. Slice open the biscuit, add sliced-off-the-block cheese like cheddar cheese or pepper jack and toast in the oven or toaster oven until melted.
Southernisms
I can admit that as a southern woman, I have not mastered the homemade biscuit but I am trying.
This quick breakfast biscuit recipe a friend suggested is delicious, if nothing else.
Our family enjoys that we know all the ingredients and the “southern biscuit mix” made here for this recipe doesn’t contain bioengineered ingredients.
