Keyword: calendula oil, diy, natural haircare, natural skincare
Yield: 3 2 ml bottles

Equipment

  • quart mason jar
  • Lid and ring
  • Organic olive oil enough to fill up jar, or jojoba or sunflower oil
  • Calendula flower heads
  • Sunny windowsill south facing window
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Large mixing bowl
  • 2ml Amber bottles

Instructions

  • Fill a quart mason jar with the fully dried calendula flower heads. Be sure they are thoroughly dried out. When in doubt, dry them for a week longer. The moisture in the flower can ruin the oil infusion.
  • Pour choice oil into the jar until all flower heads are completely covered up with oil. Use the lid and ring to secure the top. Set the jar in a sunny windowsill for 6 weeks. Longer is okay too.
  • After at least 6 weeks, use a fine mesh strainer or fine cheese cloth to strain oil into a large mixing bowl. One with a pour spout side is a great option if you are planning to bottle your oil.

Notes

Notes: Save a few flower heads to add to each bottle or jar. It’s aesthetically pleasing to the eye in a glass bottle and you have the added bonus of continued infusion making the oil a little bit stronger.
You can most definitely pair down this recipe to a pint jar or smaller to make very small batches just for your own use at home.
Keep the extra dried calendula flower heads stored in an air tight container like a mason jar until you are ready for your next infusion.
