Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream

Ice cream the way it should be made: with few ingredients and incredible taste.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes
Chilling time 45 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 35 minutes
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 generous pinch of salt
  • 1.5 cups heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract

Equipment

  • 1 ice cream maker
  • 1 c rock salt

Method

  1. In your standing mixer (or mixing bowl and hand mixer), add milk, sugar, and salt.
  2. Combine on low until sugar is dissolved. After mixing, I will then let it sit for 3-5 minutes for the sugar to fully dissolve.
  3. Stir in heavy cream and vanilla with a mixing spoon.
  4. Store in fridge for 45 minutes. If your ice cream maker calls for it, store your canister in the freezer for this time too.
  5. Use ice cream maker’s instructions to get it going correctly.
  6. Pour your ice cream mixture into the canister and add canister to the ice cream maker. Allow mixture to mix for 45 mins to 1 hour. The texture will be soft serve and delicious.

Notes

You can eat ice cream immediately after churning or store in ice cream containers in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. An airtight container helps the ice cream last longer before getting frost burn.
Makes about 1 quart of ice cream.
