Dry skin happens to us all
You may find your skin is much drier and flakier in the winter thanks to less humid, dry air.
Moisturizing is a very important part of everyone’s skin care regime but also, removing the dead skin is just as important in your prep work.
A few years ago I was on the hunt for a good face scrub that didn’t contain all kinds of harmful chemicals and ingredients I knew nothing about. I simply wanted a smooth canvas on which to paint my makeup and the dry skin flakes were becoming a big issue.
That’s when I remembered my college friend who was semi-crunchy then when I had no clue about natural living. She was a vegan and knew of a recipe before our spray tans (it was the early 2000s, I stopped using tanning beds, and she was SEMI-crunchy, take it easy!? 😉 ) that would exfoliate our skin well. It contained sugar, honey, salt, and even finely ground pecans!
I figured I could try to edit that recipe a little for my face and so here we are today.
Is this DIY easy face scrub effective for dry skin?
Aestheticians may come for me on this one but I believe you can use good discernment on whether or not this is a good idea for your skin. Test an area of skin like your arm first to see if you have any reaction.
Thus, some research! Salt vs. sugar scrub benefits, pros and cons.
I found that sugar granules are less gritty than salt and many recipes online suggest using sugar scrubs on face and décolletage. Salt scrubs should be used on arms, legs, elbows, knees, feet, etc. This is a great place to use your own best judgement on whether or not this DIY sea salt face scrub is for you.
READ MY DISCLOSURE STATEMENT HERE.
Yes, this homemade sea salt face scrub is effective. Especially if you have very dry skin that is visibly flaking or you have not exfoliated in so long that you don’t remember.
Smooth skin will help your moisturizer soak into the skin better and your makeup’s foundation look more natural as it sits on your face skin.
Use gentle fingers to rub the mixture on your face’s skin and gently rub in outward and upward circles towards your hairline for best results. Do not forget the sides of your nose and in between eyes. Try to avoid the eye area.
Salt + eyeballs = not a good time.

Notes
For Best Results
Generally, you will want to use this exfoliating face scrub once a week for the best smooth skin results.
This is not a scrub you want to use daily, even if you substitute the salt for sugar.
Your skin needs time to regenerate new skin over time. Give it some time to breathe and relax between exfoliations.
My day of the week to exfoliate my skin is Sunday mornings before church. Pick one day a week that it is your dry skin care routine and stick with it. Your skin will thank you with radiance.
Will my DIY face scrub have a long shelf life?
As a matter of fact, the shelf life is as long as you need it to be on this easy DIY exfoliating face scrub your dry skin will love because you don’t make and store it. You don’t need to!
This recipe is so easy and fast to make that you just go to the kitchen, grab your plate and 3 ingredients and make it right then. It seriously takes less than 1 minute to put the ingredients together and mix with your fingers.
