Golden Milk Latte Ingredients
2 cups milk (raw milk is incredible if you have access to it)
2 teaspoons maple syrup (can sub honey, add more if desired for more sweetness)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (make your own)
1.5 tsp ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
Pinch of black pepper, optional*
Pinch of salt
2 tablespoons espresso powder, optional*
*A few of these ingredients are optional and I explain below why that is the case.
How to make it
Start by heating milk over medium heat. Stir continuously as not to scald the milk. As steam starts to rise, whisk well to create a froth.
In a mug, prepare the flavors but stay by the milk pot to stir in between measuring flavorings. Add vanilla extract and syrup then espresso, spices, and salt.

When milk is very warm but not boiling, pour the milk into the mug.
Now use a milk frother to mix well and create more milk froth. Alternatively, you may use a small whisk or fork to mix the spices and coffee into the milk well.
Finish off your golden milk latte creation by topping with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or just some extra cinnamon on top. This is optional.

Enjoy your golden milk latte with a good book and a warm blanket.
A note about black pepper*: this is not an ingredient I add to my golden milk latte but you can! Black pepper and turmeric are a dynamic duo. Black pepper contains piperine which increases the absorption of curcumin which is found in turmeric. There’s a link between this duo creating the same pain relief as NSAIDs to reduce inflammation but don’t take my word for it. In fact, see my disclosure statement just below here!
What does golden milk latte taste like?
Golden milk latte has a mild sweet flavor thanks to the milk and the maple syrup. It boasts a spicy flavor (not temperature spicy but I could see a sprinkle of cayenne in this recipe adding a nice little kick!)
Golden milk latte can be served iced or cold, depending on your preference. Hot tastes the best to me personally.
Is golden milk latte caffeine free?
Yes. If you choose not to add the espresso powder*.
I like the addition of espresso powder to this afternoon delight because I truly like the coffee flavor but you may not include this ingredient if you do not want it.
The espresso also adds an extra caffeine boost.
What makes a golden milk latte special?
Before we continue, please see my full disclosure statement here. I am not a doctor, this is not medical advice.
Golden milk latte may offer these health benefits to the drinker:
- immune boost
- joint pain relief
- brain function and mood support
- heart health
- blood sugar management
- digestion (my sister joked this drink would send her straight to the bathroom, lol! She’ll love I put this in my post.)
- antioxidants
- anti-inflammatory
- clear skin
I won’t break down each of these possible health benefit claims but you are more than welcome and encouraged to go look them up for yourself. Try searching “are there health benefits to drinking golden milk lattes?”

Additionally, even maple syrup brings its own health benefits to this mug. Way better than using cane sugar.
Quintessentially better than going to the coffee shop in the afternoon to spend $7 on a high fructose corn syrup, synthetic food dyes, GMO-ed sugars, and other crap in a paper cup. I’m not immune to these traps either. SOMETIMES I will have a sweet treat in a cup while out and about. I try not to think about the quality of the ingredients. But 100% of the time when I make my own afternoon pick me up in a cup at home, I have zero regrets about it because I know what is in my drink.
How to enjoy this latte
From personal experience, this golden milk latte is best enjoyed in the afternoon.
Perhaps it’s at your desk while pouring over your latest writing.
Or maybe it’s sitting on your front porch steps in the warm February winter sun.
I personally prefer the latter of these options. Me, the sun, this latte, and maybe a good book on the front porch facing the Southern winter sun.
February is probably my favorite month of the year. Winter is ending, spring is on the horizon. The days are still cold but the sun is warming. And so afternoon porch sits or on a blanket in the yard on a dry, warm day is dang near close to perfection.
Keep your insides warm with this special afternoon delight of a beverage and enjoy what the Creator gave us.
